LETTER FROM THE
PRESIDENT
Jesuit
College Preparatory School and the Jesuit Dallas Museum. Two thriving institutions in one dynamic location.
The names clearly represent two distinct organizations under the same
roof. Nevertheless, as one walks the halls and the grounds of the
campus, the two truly become one single entity.
Under the impetus of former President Clyde LeBlanc, SJ, the Jesuit
Dallas Museum was established in 1983. Original works of art by
world-renowned artists formed the core of a collection which eventually
would become one of the finest collections ever assembled at a secondary
school.
A 1991 Momentum
magazine article states:
|
The effect of the presence of the art on the students has been
nothing short of remarkable. There is a unique sense of pride and
respect instilled in each student for "their" paintings. The
faculty has become aware of bold uses of color and increased
imagination in class assignments. Students gather to discuss why
an artist may have chosen a particular color or theme for a work. |
We do
have a unique situation here at Jesuit. I believe that the students are
able to appreciate art not merely by taking courses in art, but by
simply walking the hallways with their eyes open to the beauty of the
paintings and sculptures they pass along the way.
I welcome you to the Jesuit Dallas Museum and encourage you to visit
often.
Sincerely,
Philip Postell, S.J. President
