Jesuit will offer Argumentation/Debate for-credit in the summer semester. The class will be a one-semester class (0.5 credit). Tuition is $400.00, with class meeting for 3 hours for three weeks, June 10 - June 28.
There are some advantages to taking a summer class. One is that the student’s class load during the academic year might be reduced, allowing him to spend more time on those courses that may give him difficulty. A summer course might reduce total homework load, allowing more time for extracurricular activities. A minimum grade of “C” is required for successful completion of a summer course.
However, there are a few things summer school will not do. It will not reduce the minimum number of credits the student must take during the academic year (freshmen must take 5.50 credits exclusive of Phys. Ed.). It will not offer the opportunity for honors classes.
SCHEDULES: Specific scheduling information on each student will be mailed in late May.
ABSENCES: We expect you to attend every class; however, we realize illness occurs. As a limitation, on the third absence we will withdraw you from the class. A student enrolled in the For-Credit summer semester will not receive credit if he is removed from the class due to excessive absences. Jesuit reserves the right to decide on these issues.
iPADS: Students enrolled in summer school will receive their Jesuit iPad prior to the first day of summer school. Technology and the use of the iPad will be incorporated into the debate curriculum, as such students are expected to bring their iPad to class fully charged every day. For more information see iPad Resources.
DRESS CODE: Shirt with a collar, long trousers other than jeans and appropriate for school wear. Shoes worn should be any type other than sneakers, work-type boots, or sandals. Shoes must be worn with socks. Hair and grooming standards are the same as for the school year.
LUNCH/SNACKS: There is cafeteria lunch service available during the summer including breakfast items and snack selections. Students may bring food from home to eat in the cafeteria. Microwave ovens are also available.
CONDUCT: The same behavioral standards that we require students to meet during the school year apply during the summer.
