The Roundup
Rangers and Goliath
Twas many years ago, in a country far, far away, when against all odds a lowly shepherd boy slayed the giant. On September 15, the varsity football team faced similar odds at Lake Travis. Unfortunately, no such luck befell the Rangers in Austin last week. However, the Rangers lost to the Lake Travis Cavaliers, a […]

We Should Remove Confederate Iconography
On August 11, 2017, a group of white supremacists and neo-Nazi terrorists descended on Charlottesville, Virginia to (supposedly) protest the removal of a statue of Robert E. Lee. These protests ended with multiple injuries and the death of one counter-protestor. This violence has reignited the debate over what place (if any) these monuments have in […]

Film Festival Acceptee: Chase Kengott ’18
Carrying some kind of mechanical device, he stealthily follows a Jesuit student who seems to be carrying a black padded briefcase. The student suddenly starts sprinting, but he matches his pace, following only a couple feet away at each moment. Gunshots ring out… Senior Chase Kengott is, in fact, a filmmaker, just releasing his latest […]

Jesuit vs. Plano East
Photos by Jowdy Photography Beads of sweat ran down the player’s faces onto their cotton jerseys as the sun beat down on them. The quarterback stared down the Panthers who in turn stared down at him. The quarterback then yelled the play at his team. The play burned into their minds because of the hours […]

Worth the Wait Part 1: A Postmeatem
The notion of putting everything I know about barbecue into a book is a daunting one. Not because I know so much… but because of the nature of barbecue itself. It’s because the printed word- definitive, exacting, permanent- is in many ways antithetical to the process of cooking barbecue, which is, for lack of a better […]
